Driver in stolen DWP automotive rams into police, injuring officers

Three cops had been injured in a chaotic pursuit of a stolen Los Angeles Division of Water and Energy automobile Wednesday that ended with an hours-long standoff in Atwater Village after police shot the motive force.

After officers responded about 6:30 p.m. to a report of an assault with a lethal weapon in Pacoima, a person within the stolen SUV led officers on a chase on the southbound 5 Freeway and tried to ram into police autos and different drivers, KTLA-TV Channel 5 reported, citing authorities.

The motive force exited the freeway and traveled to a car parking zone on Colorado Boulevard, the place he rammed the automobile into the doorways of two police cruisers, KTLA reported.

Police shot on the stolen automobile as the person drove into officers. Aerial video from KTLA exhibits a number of bullet holes within the windshield and driver’s facet of the disabled SUV, whose entrance tires had been lacking.

The person remained within the automobile in a standoff with police for greater than two hours, behaving erratically and at instances wrapping jumper cables round himself, KTLA reported.

SWAT groups arrived about 7:30 p.m. and boxed within the man and the automobile; an hour later, he climbed out onto the roof of the automobile and was taken into custody.

The person had a gunshot wound in his leg from when officers fired on him; three officers had been additionally injured after the suspect bumped into their autos. Two cops had been handled on the scene and a 3rd was hospitalized and was secure.

“A particularly harmful ordeal with our folks’s lives & different jeopardized by an obvious crazed particular person,” Police Chief Michel Moore tweeted. “Large work by members of LAPD SWAT to security resolve.”

The Los Angeles Police Division didn’t present additional particulars.
